In 2024, Awarua Rūnaka completed Kahu Ariki, our 10-year strategy. Awarua whānau are energised for the future and the opportunities that lie before us. We are guided by our vision:

As part of this strategy, we are establishing Awarua Rūnaka Limited, a charitable organisation responsible for commercial and whānau development opportunities, ensuring the protection and growth of the pūtea while providing health, housing, education, and employment opportunities for our whānau through Awarua Whānau Services. The kaupapa also includes protecting and enhancing the taiao in our takiwā in everything we do. Awarua Rūnaka Limited will be operational by the end of June 2025.
We are currently welcoming expressions of interest for Director roles on the Board of Awarua Rūnaka Limited.
Ko wai mātou? Who are we?
Te Rūnaka o Awarua Charitable Trust is the organisation currently responsible for promoting and safeguarding the interests of Awarua whānau. The Trust oversees assets exceeding $20 million within its group of companies, with no debt. Rooted in whakapapa and tikanga, our rūnaka plays a pivotal role in protecting and growing our cultural, social, and economic resources for generations to come.
The Trust is establishing both Awarua Rūnaka Limited and Awarua Rūnaka Incorporated Society before its disestablishment by the end of June 2025. Awarua Rūnaka Incorporated Society will be the 100% shareholder of Awarua Rūnaka Limited. The Appointments Committee, comprising seven Awarua whānau, has been convened to recruit and appoint up to six new directors to the Awarua Rūnaka Limited Board. Barry Bragg has been appointed to Chair, Awarua Rūnaka Limited.

A commitment to learning about Awarua tikanga, whakapapa, and histories will be valued. With our intergenerational focus in mind, we also encourage development opportunities for rangatahi and emerging directors.

Experienced in use of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Practical experience in deployment of RCM (Reliability-Centered Maintenance) philosophy (Desirable).
Strong experience in diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of marine combustion engines and vehicles.
Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical drawings.
Familiarity with asset management software (advantageous).
General engineering skills, including experience with lathes, mills, MIG/TIG welders, and working with Aluminium and Stainless Steel (advantageous).

We are looking to appoint an amazing permanent, full-time Pūkeka/Pūkeka Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) OR permanent, full-time Tauira Mātāmua Riteka Kaio (Senior Professional Practice Fellow) with expertise in te reo, tikaka and mātauraka Māori, who can contribute to teaching across our Initial Teacher Education and Education Studies programmes.
If you are appointed to the role, you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in Initial Teacher Education and Education Studies papers. If appointed as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will also supervise postgraduate research students and develop your own programme of research. If you are a New Zealand registered teacher, you may also visit initial teacher education students on professional experience.

Reporting to the Board of Kā Rūnaka, you will establish Hono ki Tua limited into a Limited company, establishing the business structure, keys policies, registering it as a company and ensuring it meets all its legal requirements. You will also assist the Board coordinate, consult and develop an education delivery model for Hono ki Tua.
Key experience and skills required for this position include:
• Previous experience establishing a limited company, including developing and implementing key legal documents and policies, brand development, and ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
• Well-developed project management and business development skills.
• Experience managing recruitment processes.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

SCOPE OF SERVICES
The Contractor will perform the role of Business Development Manager and will work closely with the appointed representation from Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou Incorporated, Kāti Huirapa Rūnaka ki Puketeraki Incorporated and Te Rūnanga o Moeraki Incorporated to establish Hono ki Tua Limited. Hono ki Tua Limited will deliver education programmes in each of the tribal takiwā of Ōtākou, Kati Huirapa ki Puketeraki and Moeraki. The Business Development Manager will play a key role in establishing Hono ki Tua as a charitable company and developing and maintaining key policies of Hono ki Tua Limited. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will handle recruitment and branding efforts, support the Board in developing an education delivery model and provide assistance on administrative tasks and reporting requirements.
Key relationships
The Business Development Manager will report to the Chair of the Hono ki Tua Limited Board. In addition, they will form relationships with, liaise with and collaborate with:
• Hono ki Tua Board
• Kā Rūnaka (Ōtākou, Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki, Moeraki)
• Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu

Development and maintenance of key policies and procedures
The Business Development Manager will develop and maintain the following policies and procedures:

• Develop Terms of Reference for Hono ki Tua Limited Board;

Establish a Charitable Company for the legal identity of Hono ki Tua Limited
The Business Development Manager will carry out the following activities to establish Hono ki Tua Limited:
• Liaise with relevant parties to create the Hono ki Tua Limited constitution
• Undertake paperwork to establish Hono ki Tua Limited as a charitable company
• Coordinate a bank account, IRD number and insurance for Hono ki Tua Limited
• The completion of business plan and reporting structures
Development of Job Descriptions and organise the recruitment of the Kaikōkiri Mātauraka
The Business Development Manager will:
• Develop a job description for the Kaikōkiri Mātauraka
• Advertise and recruit for the role of Kaikōkiri Mātauraka
• Work alongside the Board for the recruitment process
Coordinate the development of branding for Hono ki Tua Limited
The Business Development Manager will:
• Coordinate the development of a logo and branding for Hono ki Tua Limited alongside the Board
Support the Board to coordinate the process of developing an education delivery model
The Business Development Manager will:
• Support the Board in the organisation and logistics of hui around the development of an education delivery model
Reporting
The Business Development Manager will provide regular reporting to The Board to track progress against key deliverables. The Business Development Manager will:
• Provide fortnightly board reports
• Provide adhoc progress updates to the Board as required and/or requested
• Attend board hui on a fortnightly basis
Administration and other duties
In the course of setting up the Hono ki Tua Limited company, the Business Development Manager will:
• Provide administrative support as reasonably required.
• Flex to provide other duties of a similar nature as agreed with the Board, and as reasonably required
